Position: Sr. Reporter/Blogger, Immigration
Description: This is a grant-funded position running through Dec. 31, 2011.

Overview:
The Journalist-Blogger leading the site will be charged w/ building a dedicated online following around coverage of immigration policy & issues affecting southern California communities that are "emerging" into a greater role in society: immigrants & their children & grandchildren. The position requires that the Journalist-Blogger become the area's most authoritative voice on the issue.

- Guides coverage of the emerging communities/ immigration beat & comprehensively executes a broad variety of assignments.

- Produces several posts daily for new blog covering emerging communities & immigration in Los Angeles.

- Writes about the day's news & curates related materials from elsewhere online in an informal, conversational style.

- Cultivates sources, identifies important trends in immigration & immigrant communities, & collects & verifies information through a variety of online & offline channels.

- Initiate PIJ involvement, including meetings & other stand-alone online projects & data-driven applications

Requirements:

-Bachelor's degree & 7-10 years journalism exp in traditional media & a minimum of 5 years hands-on exp in online media

- First-rate writer & communicator w/ the ability to lead a blog on emerging communities & immigration in Los Angeles.

- Ability to deliver substantive reports, including breaking news, in a wide variety of media formats (audio slideshows, photo journalism, video reports) & on deadline

- Understanding of social media universe.

- Excellent language skills, including writing, editing, & proofreading

- Strong Photoshop skills, a good photojournalistic sense & deep familiarity w/ HTML & Web publishing tools

- The successful candidate should also be able to provide "live" radio reports & two-ways on the topic of immigration & emerging communities for use on the air
