Poem #59 of 365

Multi-tasking hurriedly on the day before traveling is like

me starting a sentence that

working out a mathematical improbability

delivering a baby before time to push

making the smoking alarm go off yet again

forgetting who i dialed once the numbers are punched

and wondering if our book should have been titled HECHO EN CHAOS instead.

Hey! It was great meeting you! Something really cool happened today. My 83 year old dad came by and I shared the book with him. He loved it! The coolest part was that he knew the music to the song, "El Contrabando del Paso" (El Paso)and he sang it to me. He said he remembered being a little boy in 1930 and listening to his 2 older brothers (that were twins and bootleggers) sing that song in harmony. I marveled that I had history sitting in my kitchen.

That's such a great moment you shared con tu papa. It's our families' stories that often don't make it to print, but when a person like your
father recognizes his life in a lyric in a book, it shows the power and value of putting our cuentos y cantos on a page.

I hope he keeps singing to you!

And, I'd love to hear the bootlegger twins' story....

adelante!
